Give her the finger...

Well... we've given up on the lunch meat... last nites pill odyssey consisted of left-over chicken fingers... stuffing a capsule down into the cold greasy meat and feeding it to her out on the porch in full view of the barn cats... 3 fingers later we were now faced with a greasy melting capsule that she had somehow managed to eat the chicken from around without distrubing the medication... So it was back to Plan A.. the peanut butter syringe... Of course now tho, she was on to us so it was a matter of waiting until she calmed down so we could catch her...

About an hour later Mr. 9 2 Bay managed to grab her from the office sofa where she had crawled off and fell asleep... What transpired then was so hilarious I had to fight to get off the sofa and get the camera... laughing so hard it started another of those horrible coughing fits.. which then began to cause my bladder to implode... Yeah.. just another exciting Friday nite here on 9 2 Bay... To top it all off I was laughing and coughing so hard the pic came out horrible...

The peanut butter syringe worked... but personally... I wanna go back to giving her the finger...

Later...

Ok, about the pill think. Our cat (who probably weighs about as much as the little dog here - one being overweight, the other just a small short-legged breed) has sinus issues. Her nose is constantly stuffed and the boogers, well, you get it. She sounds like Darth Vader in the dark. So we need to give her antibiotics (for the rest of her life, mind you!) and it is crazier than you can imagine. She doesn't eat canned food. That's ok, I hate the smell and the cans, but that means we can't put her meds in her food. Ok. So we try the FANCY canned food. Nope. Chicken baby food, nope EXCUSE ME, anchovy paste!!! NO! So we have come to the conclusion that she has no sense of smell! All she knows is the little crunchy things in her bowl are food. If some should fall on the floor, they are not food now. Our remedy - shove the pill down her throat! Then you blow in her face and she swallows it - usually. I have to watch her because sometimes she will walk away and I'll find the pill on the floor. Well, a lot of the times. The first med didn't help, (the ordinary cheap amoxicillin) she was still sneezing and wheezing so we went with a stronger, wider spectrum antibiotic. That seemed to work but it's expensive! And considering she needs it a week or two out of every month, it adds up. Poor Luna. She is due for another round and I have been putting off calling the vet for a refill. She hates the pill and although I try to pour the pill out of the bottle and wait a while so she doesn't associate the pill bottle noise with the 'throat shove', she is getting wise to it. It seems every animal we have ever had needs some form of medicine for whatever reason. And I thought kids were a pain!
